Gcwala-Ngamasiko kicks off on Afrika Day
How appropriate that Gcwala-Ngamasiko is beeing celebrated during Africa Month this May.
Once again, the African Cultural Music and Dance Association (ACUMDA) in partnership with the National Department of Arts and Culture (DAC) will proudly host the Gcwala-Ngamasiko Cultural Festival in South Africa from the 25th to 29th May 2016, under the theme "Building a Better AFRICA and a Better WORLD for Peace and Friendship"
This annual Pan-African festival forms part of the annual AFRICA Month celebrations that will be spread across the country's 9 provinces, with various multi-cultural programmes and activities! The festival will be preceded by the Interactive Dialogue seminar, where both local Provincial and International visiting groups will meaningfully engage in dialogue and collaborative dance workshop.
Together with Mzansi, countries such as Algeria, Seychelles, Senegal, Tanzania, Malawi, Zimbabwe will participate on the proogram. The participation of these countries further strengthens the belief that the project is so relevant to the country's objectives and continental objectives and programmes.
Some of these objectives are to promote Social Cohesion underpinned by Rule of Law, Justice and Human Dignity!
ACUMDA Project Manager and Project Liaison, Mr. Benjamin Mfaba said: "ACUMDA and indeed the whole country is so excited to be hosting the 12th edition of Gcwala-Ngamasiko.
Gcwala-Ngamasiko's key objectives revolve around contributing to Africa's regional and continental continuous dialogue for Self-identity and Affirmation, Political stability, Socio-Economic transformation, Integration, and Sustainability; including identifying and promoting shared African norms and values, such as UBUNTU"...concluded Mr. Mfaba.
Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa said: "This cultural festival has been in the forefront to reposition the role of the arts, culture and heritage sector in redefining African Identity. It is to celebrate and mainstream the contribution of the sector to the economy of the continent. We are proud that our artists have reclaimed a leadership role to assert African identity and promote unity among all the people of the continent. The platform will display the creativity and originality of African artists towards building a better Africa and better World for peace and friendship.
